[18 Mar 2010|08:52am] |
HAd to get up in the night for something, and now am dozing off at the keyboard.
Discovered that the Old Electricity company have, whilst writing to me claiming that I'm trying to cheat them out of money to the tune of a tenner, have been deducting £50 a month from my acount after I changed providers.
Erm who is cheating whom there?

I was tagged by morianna1, and while I rarely do these things, I decided to do this one. Random, remember? ~points to post title~ So in the meme category:
( Meme )
In the TMI category, my diverticulitis is much better. I'm no longer wavering on the verge of ending up in the hospital, and while it's not a diet that I would recommend to anyone (since not eating at all is a major part of it), I've lost eight pounds.
And in the pet category, Cody the Puppy will be coming home from the vet's office tomorrow. Yea!
( Cut for those who want to be spared the unpeasant backstory )
I'm still working on my soapbox rant, but I'm also still too tired. I'll get there, don't worry. ;P

| I do despair of the world sometimes |
[17 Mar 2010|09:18am] |
If Guardian readers come from the left and are supposed to be enlightened and feminist, then god alone knows what a thread about rape on a Daily Mail webpage would look like.
The Stern report on the prosecution of rape came out the other day, and made some faintly helpful suggestions.
Someone posted about it on the Guardian.
Cue several hundred comments on the epidemic of false accusations of rape, and the difficulty of proving anything when it's one person's word against another.
Can we say derailing? I think we can.
And almost all criminal court cases involve one person's word against another. This is not a unique feature of rape cases.
I was mugged by him vs No you weren't.
He hit me first vs I thought he was going to hit me, so I got my retaliation in first.
Etc, etc, etc. They all involve looking at people and working out which one you think is a shifty little liar, and sometimes getting it wrong.
And no, I don't think being falsely accused of rape is as bad as being raped and not getting justice.
Twats.
My view? If you get raped, stalk him in a car, run him over, have a couple of drinks, and plead guilty to drink driving. You may not kill him, but even if you do, you'd get a lowish sentence. It's be worth it.
Semagic seems cured again this morning so presumably it was something to do with the recent update on LJ. This is good because without it the exchange would have been a lot more work.

ACHILLES BY CAROLN ANN DUFFY
Myth's river- where his mother dipped him, fished him, a slippery golden boy flowed on, his name on its lips. Without him, it was prophesised, they would not take Troy. Women hid him, concealed him in girls' sarongs; days of sweetmeats, spices, silver songs... But when Odysseus came, with an athlete's build, a sword and a shield, he followed him to the battlefield, the crowd's roar, And it was sport, not war, his charmed foot on the ball... But then his heel, his heel, his heel...

| I am alive, barely... |
[15 Mar 2010|01:21pm] |
I've had a flare up of diverticulitis, so I've spent the past few days going from only eating soup and yogurt to not eating at all. I knew better, but clearly I'm an idiot and so instead of doing the one thing that always works - fasting - I tried to cheat my way through it. ~sighs~ But I'm getting better, and I have high hopes of being able to start eating again by tomorrow night. ~crosses fingers~
shiv5468 tagged me for the "Pick 10 people and give them the "you make my day award". If you're picked, you are charged with picking 10 of your own. So if your name was chosen... come on down! You're the next contestant on the make my day meme!"
(Yes, they're in alphabetical order, because how do you rank the people who make your day? And because I don't want to inadvertently offend. Since some of them have already been given the "You Make My Day Award" by others, they don't have to do it again. ~grin~ )

And I had a soapbox rant planned about various and sundry things going on the fandom at large, but I ran out of steam today. Maybe tomorrow. ;P

| Today I are mostly enjoying myself |
[14 Mar 2010|10:55pm] |
I thought that I was getting up late, having rolled over and gone back to sleep three times, only to find it was half eight when I got up, and then mildly wibbled with so many of you talking about the clocks going forward. We don't do that for another fortnight!
I pottered out to see Solomon Kane, which I enjoyed hugely. Dafty plot, top totty, all swashing of blades and angstying, with enough topless shots to make it all worthwhile.
I've bought two new pairs of shoes. DMs, and so far they seem comfortable. I'm not really accustomed to comfortable shoes, but there is something entertaining about the thought of wearing DMs into the office. It's also part of the push to be more active, as not only can I walk in them, I shall walk in them. More than that, I shall polish them so that they don't crack. Usually I just buy new shoesies.
Tomorrow, I am going to see Alice.
And I've finished my Snarry a thon fic! It's still moderately awful, but it is done.
And now I'm winding up the evening watching Professor Brian Cox being all enthusiastic about the solar system. Bless, he's so cute.
